SUCCESS STORIES

“As I have matured about the only time the word fitness could be used in a sentence with me would be in regard to yard work. And I dearly love yard work.

Last summer my good friend, Pam McAnally, came by the school to check on something. She looked great and I asked her what she had been up to. Then she told me about Robert and his studio and that she was getting up and working out at 5:00 am every morning. She was doing this during her summer vacation from school, not my idea of fun! But she told me how much she was enjoying it and she was losing pounds and inches.

During the three weeks I was home I kept thinking about Pam and the “fun” she was having. When everyone returned to school, Pam looked even smaller, now I was determined to start having some fun also. There was a time when we could go and try out the classes and see what we thought. And I stayed….So not me!

When I first started working out, I noticed that I looked like the oldest person in the room and I did not notice anyone my age coming to classes that followed mine. That does not bother me. And I would strongly encourage anyone 50, 60+ years old to start an exercise program soon as they can. I wish I had started when younger, but then Robert would not have been here. So this was the right time for me. I am very clumsy and it is well known throughout our family. But Robert is always right there to give direction and correction to insure that I learn how to properly do whatever it is. Being that osteoporosis is in my family genes I know how important it is for me to exercise and build strong bones. To go hand in hand with exercise is eating healthy. Nutrition is one of those gray areas, something else that Robert is able to help me with and he has. Now it is up to me…

Even though I am a breast cancer survivor, I could not use that as an excuse for being in such poor physical condition. Probably what limits my work outs more than anything is asthma. And that is a mystery because I did not develop it until I was 50 years old.

It is so out of character for me to enjoy working out as I do. Bear crawls, soldier walks, push ups, pull ups and Burpees were foreign to my vocabulary and something that I had never done. And now Robert was convincing me I would be able to do them. “Just try!”

I am not in competition with anyone other than myself. To this day, it amazes me at what I am able to do, in comparison to the first couple of months. And I feel so much better. This past winter I was sick less times than I have been in recent years and I attribute it to working out.

Thank you, Robert, for your gentle, encouraging spirit. I tend to want to try harder each time because I do not want to let you down. And after all these months, I still love it!!”
