SUCCESS STORIES

“I joined CrossFit (Garland) because I wanted something different from your normal gym. I was tired of going to the gym, working out on a machine and not seeing results. I was tired of having a “workout” that only worked a certain part of my body. I wanted a workout I could use in the real world and CrossFit was that real world workout. With CrossFit a workout can last 15 minutes and it wouldn’t even come close to an hour work out I was doing in the gym. In one WOD (Workout Of The Day) I can work out my shoulders, biceps, abs and knock out cardio all in one workout.

I am a mountain biker and I was wanting to train for a 63 mile off road tour at the end of March. During the months leading up to the event I was unable to get any off road miles in because of the rain. So I needed something that could prepare me physically and mentally. After doing some research and talking to other mountain bikers, a lot of them said they saw a lot of results with CrossFit. After 2 months of CrossFit I was able to finish the tour. The tour was one of the hardest things I have ever attempted to do. It was so physically and mentally demanding and I had to battle long hill climbs, fast descends and cold rain. Planning for this race is also key because you need to take enough food with you to recover the calories you’ve burned in that time. Towards the end of the tour I ran out of food and hit a wall. My body had had enough and my mind couldn’t tell my body to continue…. it needed carbs. With only 5 miles left and no food, I was done until I had something in my stomach. As I was sitting on the side of the trail, a friend who was riding miles behind me caught up to me and gave me some food to help me finish the tour. But it was CrossFit that allowed me to stay in it for this long and keep going, pushing, pedaling and FINISH! It was my “WOD” and I had to finish.

In the few months I’ve been doing CrossFit I’ve noticed that my upper body is getting stronger. My upper body is my weakest part of my body but the changes to it have been so rewarding! With a lot of hard work ,my deltoids and biceps are getting bigger. I couldn’t do one pull up when I started, now I can knock out 10 with no band. Pushups, handstand pushups, squats are now a daily part of my vocabulary.

One thing I love about 3Q Fitness: CrossFit Garland is the family environment it has. Just like a family, everyone in the gym helps each other and wants to see everyone succeed. It’s a family, it’s a culture, it’s a way of life. And Robert is our fitness father that points us in the right direction and shows us the way things should be to succeed. I also see 3Q as a group of friends competing against each other much like when I was a kid, we would race each other to the end of the street to see who was faster. We all want to finish 1st and be on top, at least I do. So when you look at it as a friendship or a family it doesn’t really feel like a workout but a group of buddies racing down the street racing each other, so this makes if fun. It take some of the pain out, but not much. :)
